By: Alex Sommerfield Who is Forrest Lamp? Why he is only the 2017 NFL draft prospect with a name that screams Hall of Famer. Considered the second best football player ever named Forrest, this ultra athletic offensive lineman could be a big help to any NFL teams O-line. Lamp played at the football powerhouse known as Western Kentucky University. After redshirting his first year on campus, Lamp began his career as a guard and eventually was shifted out to left tackle where he spent the rest of his college career. At 300lbs. he is small for a lineman in the NFL which will likely force him in back to guard. This should not be a big issue with his exquisite athleticism. If you watched NFL Networks coverage of the underwear Olympics, more commonly known as the NFL combine. Scouts were raving about this kid’s tape vs the actual football power house, Alabama. At the combine Lamp finished second amongst offensive linemen in the bench press with 34 reps (more than the Field of 3s team could do combined) and was just shy of breaking the 4 second mark in the 40-yard dash with a time of 5 seconds flat. I think the other Forrest might have him beat in the latter category, maybe just maybe. Now why are we talking about this random O-lineman from Western Kentucky? Well he is projected to go in the first round in this years NFL Draft. Some experts even have him going in the top ten. Lamp was also a third team All-American his senior year at WKU. Yes, this unknown kid from the third Kentucky school is a big deal. The highest a player from Western Kentucky has ever been drafted in the NFL Draft is the third round. Here at Field of 3s we thoroughly enjoy the Tom Hanks Movie Forrest Gump. He who is undoubted the best football player ever named Forrest, even though he could only run in straight lines. (But aren’t all lines straight?) Forrest Lamp’s unique name and talent has attracted football minds from all over. Offensive lines around he NFL have been on the down tick over the past few years. Lamp isn’t he flashiest prospect but he is going to be solid and get the job done. He will be a future anchor to any offensive line. Although he is the brightest prospect (lamp pun). Again just to reiterate the Field of 3s team would draft Forrest Lamp strictly based on his name, his football skill is just a bonus. The team with no fan base, the San Diego Chargers, selected Lamp with the 38th overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.
